Welcome to my website, a forum where I convey and discuss environmental philosophy!3634381424_d1b27156b4_o

Here, you will find a number of discussions dedicated to an issue which is of relevance to us all: What is the human relationship with nature?

This blog draws upon the central topic of my master’s thesis within philosophy, which is titled:

The moral worth of living beings
An analysis of James P. Sterba’s arguments justifying Biocentrism

I’ve always had strong opinions about animal welfare and the protection of living beings in general.  From personal experience I have found digging into the subject from a philosophic perspective particularly rewarding. Studying given topics and reflecting on them, scrutinizing different arguments, aids me when straightening out what I really think and where I stand fundamentally. It also provides an edge in discussions, lending leverage to my viewpoints.800px-Ecology_Society_Economy_diagram_Environment_background

On this website I will do my best to communicate my findings through presenting information about environmental ethics, biocentrism, James Sterba, and some of the philosophical perspectives on what value living beings possess. It is by no means a site where I will advocate or assert my own opinions. Rather, while exploring it what you’ll find are pages explaining what environmental ethics and biocentrism are, what philosophers  mean when they talk about value and moral worth, and last but not least, arguments concerning the value of living beings.

800px-BookshelfOn your left hand side you’ll also find Goodreads. This is a handful of books I would recommend should you want to learn more about the subject, and might be worth checking out. 🙂  Since this website touches on our relationship with nature and on living organisms in general, I have included a media gallery with information and news about projects involving humans and other living beings, and scientific discoveries about the traits and abilities of a variety of creatures.

I will not go deeply nor thoroughly into the analyses of Sterba’s arguments, but if you are interested in reading my thesis I will post it online upon its completion.
